If you are taking a class, new to SQL or Oracle then this book would be good for you because of the exercises. But this book is only a jumping off point. This is a text book. In my learning, I also used other resources like Oracle 9i: The Complete Reference book and peers who do a lot of sql and saw some of their code examples working in the real world.
